At The Breathe Kids Clinic, we offer treatments to children from the age of 3 to 15. Looking at the way your child breathes, their posture, mouth and tongue and the way they swallow, are important. These are called myofunctional habits and greatly affect the way your child’s teeth and jaw develops. Implementing good habits at an early age can have a dramatic impact on the development of a child’s face, jaw muscles and teeth. In turn, this can have a positive impact on their overall development into later life.
The following evaluation allows you to screen your child for the causes that may be affecting your child’s jaw and facial development.
- Does your child breathe loudly when asleep?
- Does your child suffer with nasal congestion?
- Does your child breathe mostly through his or her mouth?
- Does your child snore?
- Have you ever observed your child pause in his or her breathing during sleep?
- Is your child a restless sleeper?
- Is your child excessively sleepy?
- Is your child hyperactive or inattentive?

Patient Journey for Kids
Similar to our adult patients from The Breathe Clinic, every child receives an initial consultation for us to perform a pre-orthodontic evaluation.
- We begin with a consultation with the parent and child to understand the child’s oral health profile
- We then conduct a sleep study followed by further investigations by our lead clinician. For children, an adult sleep study is not effective, so we utilise an adapted version for our younger patients. We ask that parent’s video their child while sleeping and from there, we can offer a diagnostic report of their issues
- Following a sleep study, our Clinical Lead will analyse and assess your child’s treatment needs
- Any additional treatment that is required, such as tonsil removal, will be carried out by our ENT surgeon partner
